What type of potatoes works best for mashed potatoes?

You can really use any type of potatoes that you want. Some people prefer red potatoes while others prefer russets. I'm fine with either, just make certain that you clean and peel them before using them.

How do you make mashed potatoes creamy?

To get that creamy texture that we all love and adore, it all comes down to the cream and liquid that you're added. As long as you don't add too much, you'll create a nice texture that will be just what you're looking for.

What happens if the mashed potatoes are too dry?

If your mashed potatoes are too dry, you can easily fix that. Just add in a bit more heavy cream or broth and it should add in all the liquid that you need.

Just be certain that you're adding it in small spurts though as you don't want to over pour. You can always add in more as you need to but once you add too much, that's when you're going to be in trouble.

  • KitchenAid immersion blender | Blend mashed potatoes, soups, and more right in the pressure cooker with an immersion blender. We've used a KitchenAid immersion blender for years.

Just as this recipe is super simple to cook, it's even easier to store for later. Just put the leftover garlic mashed potatoes into a glass meal prep freezer containers resealable container and store it in the fridge.

Then when you're ready to eat, all you have to do is reheat and enjoy. Add in a little more cream or broth to make it creamy again and top it with some fresh butter.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 pounds of Russet potatoes; cleaned, peeled, and cubed
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves, minced
  • ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

    1. Start by combining the garlic, potatoes, rosemary leaves, and broth to the Instant Pot. Add in salt and pepper. Stir. Put on lid and lock. Put vent to sealing on manual for 8 minutes.
    2. Once done, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes. Manually release anything left after that.

    4. Put in a serving bowl and add toppings. Serve potatoes was a side with a pork chop, steak, or make it a one-dish meal and top your Instant Pot garlic mashed potatoes with hamburger gravy.

  • Easy garlic mashed potatoes can be jazzed up with a variety of toppings. Gravy is a favorite topping: hamburger gravy, turkey gravy, and brown gravy is also an option.
  • Top mashed potatoes with bacon crumbles, shredded cheddar cheese, and green onions.
  • Add sour cream or cream cheese instead of heavy cream to change up the taste or texture.
  • Use half and half instead of heavy cream to reduce the calories a little bit.
