How Do I Add More Flavor to my Instant Pot Chili Recipe?

The secret ingredient to enhance the flavor in your chili is adding either a cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon can boost the meaty flavor of the chili.

Alternatively, you may also add a shot of espresso or a small cup of strong coffee to do the trick.

Another trick to bring out the best flavor in your chili is to eat it the next day, as the meat in the chili absorbs the spices, thereby adding more flavors to your dish.

Storage Ideas & Suggestions

The chili should not be kept outside for more than 2 hours of preparing the chili. The best way to store chili is in an airtight container or in a freezer bag in the refrigerator where it will remain good for 3 to 4 days.

The chili can also be frozen and stored for up to 6 months in an airtight container or freezer bags; however, it is best if the chili is consumed within 30 days of cooking it.

This Award Winning Meat Chili recipe is the perfect game day chili recipe. Or, pair it up with a hotdog because it is also the best chili dog topping.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Additional Time 15 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes


  1. Turn the Instant Pot on to sauté mode and wait until it is hot. Then, add in the vegetable oil.
  2. When the oil is hot add in the onion and bell peppers for 2-3 minutes. Then add in the ground beef or ground turkey and brown.
  3. Add in the seasonings, but do not add in the Masa Harina. Stir to incorporate.
  4. Seal the lid on Instant Pot and make sure the pressure valve is closed. Set for a high pressure time of zero minutes. The chili will be cooking during the time it builds up pressure, which should be around 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. When the pressure cooking time has finished, allow for a natural release for 15 minutes. After that time, release the remaining pressure and then carefully open the lid.
  6. Add 1 tablespoon of the Masa Harina to thicken the chili, if needed. Add an additional tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.


Serve Award Winning Chili topped with all the fixings: sour cream, cheese, chives, and jalapeños. You could use this as a topping for chili dogs or pair it with our corn dogs!

  • Can my dog have Chili? Do not feed your dog any spicy food like chili, it is not recommended to give this recipe to your dog. Although your dog's diet is based on meat like ground beef, the spicy and strong ingredients that this chili recipe contains aren't the best for his organism. While chili peppers aren't toxic to dogs, they do contain a compound called capsaicin that acts as an irritant to dogs. If your dog eats too many chili peppers, he can experience various digestive issues. Also, ingredients like garlic and onion are highly toxic to the dog's stomach.
  • Can my cat have Chili?  It is best not to let your cat indulge in this highly spiced food recipe, as it could cause an upset stomach. You should avoid letting your cats nibble on this Chili dish because it might upset their stomachs and leave them feeling sick.
