What apples are good for Instant Pot Apple Crisp?
Make this apple cobbler crisp with Honeycrisp apples or gala apples. You want a sweet apple that will help to add a nice sweetness while still holding up as it cooks.
You could even venture out and try a Granny Smith with some Honeycrisp apples. This would give your dessert more dimension in texture and flavor.

GLUTEN FREE APPLE CRISP TOPPING INGREDIENTS
Not all products are created equal, and this is even more true when shopping for gluten-free products. Many products are naturally gluten free, but if you have a gluten intolerance or a disease that prevents you from eating gluten, you know you have to be extra careful about avoiding gluten and cross-contamination.
Here are gluten-free product substitutions we used in this recipe to make a gluten free almond flour apple crisp in Instant Pot recipe.
- almond flour | King Arthur has a wide range of gluten-free products.
- gluten free rolled oats | Be careful when buying oats. Double check that they are gluten free and not cross-contaminated.
- light brown sugar | While naturally gluten-free, make sure you buy brown sugar that specifically says it is gluten free so you don't accidentally purchase a product that is produced in a facility that also produces products containing gluten.
- ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg | Jackie's kitchen has a selection of gluten free spices to stock up on.
Do you have to peel apples for apple crisp?
This recipe makes learning how to slice apples for apple crisp super easy. Not only do you not have to peel the apples, but you simply use an apple corer/slicer, and then cut the apple slices into bite-sized pieces.
A healthy apple crisp recipe that uses real apples! Nothing fake going on here, and in no time you have a dessert the whole family can devour.

Supplies Used to Make Instant Pot Apple Crisp
- Apple corer/slicer
- Glass mixing bowls

Is this a healthy apple crisp with oats?
Due to the sugar and butter used, you have to remember it is okay when eaten in moderation. You will get some heartiness from the oats, nutrients from the apples.

How to Serve Up This Instant Pot Apple Crisp
- A scoop of vanilla ice cream
- Whipped cream
- Serve it up plain
- Top with some crushed pecans for added crunch
- Etc
Honestly, this apple crisp recipe is great served alone but also delicious with your favorite toppings!
Is Crisp The Same As Cobbler
Cobbler is more cake-like on the topping where crisps are made using oats. Both have a fruit filling and are absolutely delicious to eat up! I love them both but crisps always win me over with the oats!
Can I Make This With Canned Apple Pie Filling
If you don't want to use fresh apples, go ahead and reach for canned apple pie filling. I would suggest using 2 cans for this recipe, as one can doesn't go too far.
It will be very similar you will just lack the mix of homemade but it will taste very similar to using fresh apples!
Does Crisp Refrigerate Well
You can enjoy leftover dessert. Just place in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4-5 days. Then you can eat the leftovers cold or toss in the microwave for a quick reheat.
If you reheat just do a little time at a time, it will get bubbling hot fast. Then top with your favorite toppings or enjoy it plain. The crisp topping will be a bit soggier in texture but still taste incredible!
