There are so many wonderful dishes your pressure cooker can prepare for you but taking the time to learn how to convert oz to cups properly will take those meals to the next level! Today, we discuss how to properly convert oz to cups and which recipes you'll need to watch out for.

How to convert oz to cups

There are 8 fluid oz in 1 cup, and as discussed in our How Many Ounces In A Cup article, there's a difference between liquid and dry ounces.

For example, our Instant Pot Carbonara recipe uses 8 ounces of spaghetti noodles and our Instant Pot Creamy Brussel Sprouts Casserole uses 1 cup sour cream.

In this instance, it would be hard to effectively measure 1 cup of dry spaghetti noodles in liquid measuring cups, and likewise, it would be hard to properly measure 1 cup of sour cream in metal or stainless-steel measuring cups.

This is why the equipment you use is so important, as getting the measuring cups confused could lead to an unpleasant situation.

For example, suppose you measured 1 cup or 8 fluid ounces of sour cream and then continued on through the recipe? At some point, you'll notice the dish begins to lack moisture or a creamy consistency.

Same with the spaghetti noodles. You may not have enough spaghetti noodles if you use a liquid measuring cup, leaving your carbonara lacking in its main ingredients.

How about our Instant Pot Ramen? This recipe uses 8 ounces of Bok choy as well as 6 cups Ramen broth. It's important to note here that not only do you have to worry about measuring oz to cups correctly, but that you also use the correct Instant Pot to prevent overflowing.

Ways to measure oz to cups

The easiest way to measure oz to cups is to use a glass measuring cup with ounce and cup indicators. Brands such as Pyrex and OXO have glass measuring cups that range from 1-4 cups! Because you're measuring 8 fluid ounces, a 1 cup measuring glass would be perfect.

And if you don't have glass measuring cups on hand then utilizing a shot glass would be another option. Most shot glasses are 1 ounce, so you would need to refill it eight (8) times to get to a cup.

If you have a standard coffee mug (12 oz), you can fill it up 3/4 of the way full to get 1 cup of liquid.

Likewise, a small mason jar would work as well, as most regular-size wide-mouth jars are 8 to 10 ounces.
