How Many Ounces in a Quart

Burnt the stew? The problem may not be what you think it is. In this article, we'll discuss what a quart is and how many ounces in a quart of fluid should be placed in the Instant Pot.

How many ounces in a quart

There are 33 fluid ounces in 1 quart, which is equivalent to approximately 4 cups of liquid.

Let's take our Instant Pot Cheeseburger Soup for example. The ingredients require 4 cups of finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese which equates to 1 quart of cheese.

Now, this example is perfect because it brings up the topic of dry vs. wet ingredients.

Shredded sharp cheddar cheese is a dry ingredient and must be treated differently- measurement-wise- than wet ingredients.

Dry ingredients are measured using food scales, and metal or stainless-steel measuring cups. Liquid ingredients are measured using glass measuring cups or liquid containers.

You could attempt to use glass measuring cups to measure the cheese but ensure that you pack it in tightly so you get an accurate measuring count.

With dry measuring equipment, the scale provides the weight count, which comes in handy for speed and efficiency.

Another great example is Garlic Naan, which requires 4 cups of flour. It is recommended to use stainless steel measuring equipment so that you do not add more flour than needed, and with bread drying out or becoming tough when the flour mix is not right, this is important.

How to measure ounces in a quart

You can easily measure ounces in a quart through the use of glass measuring cups. The lined markers on the glass quickly indicate the ounces, which is by far the easiest way to tell.

Should you not have glass measuring cups on hand, remember that 33 fluid ounces equals a quart.

So, if you fill a standard 16 oz coffee mug or 8 oz drinking glass then you'll know that you will need to refill your coffee mug twice and your drinking glass four times- approximately.

Another hack is to use a sports water bottle. Many wide-mouth and bicycle water bottles are 33 ounces, meaning you'll only need to fill up once to get the job done.

And if none of those are an option, then using an empty milk or juice carton will work. Each is approximately 32 fluid ounces and quick alternatives.
