But before you go ahead and jump right into the recipe and get started, here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know before you do!

What is Chicken Piccata?

Chicken piccata is a classic comforting Italian dish that is crafted by slicing chicken breast thinly, coating them in flour, cooking them until golden brown, and then drenching them in a light, a lemony sauce containing butter, capers, and lemon juice.

What Do Capers Taste Like?

Capers are an important ingredient for a basic chicken piccata recipe. If you’ve never tried them, you might be confused about what they taste like. They are basically unripened green flower buds that are often pickled and used to add a tangy, salty flavor to your food preparations.

Capers are known to contain a plethora of antioxidants and are also an excellent source of vitamins A and E.

What to Serve With the Chicken Piccata

This chicken piccata recipe is an excellent main that you can enjoy on its own. However, if you’re in the mood to take it up a notch, you can team it up with some steamed rice or egg noodles or even some mashed potatoes or cauliflower if you’re trying to keep things healthy.

You can also serve the piccata with a side of pan-roasted asparagus or green beans or some charred cherry tomatoes.

Chicken piccata also tastes excellent when served with a nice salad on the side. Whip up a quick salad with ingredients like cucumber, onions, avocado, rocket leaves, and radishes.

How Do I Store the Leftovers?

Ended up making more than you could have? You can easily store the leftovers in your refrigerator. Just transfer the chicken piccata and all its delicious sauce into an airtight container. It should stay fresh in your refrigerator for 2-3 days.

You can also freeze the piccata before or after it has been cooked. Just remember to allow it to thaw completely before you reheat it.

Why Did My Chicken Piccata Turn Bitter?

To make the sauce for the piccata, you’ll probably need to use lemon zest. If you’re not zesting the lemon properly, and are getting the white pith portion too, you’ll end up making your sauce taste bitter.

How Do I Fix My Super Lemony Sauce

With chicken piccata, it can be easy to overdo the lemon flavor, and if you’re not a fan of the intense sourness and tanginess of the lemon, you can add a bit of baking soda to cut through the excess acidity, or balance it out with a bit of sugar or honey. And of course, you could also add in some cream or cheese to lighten the intensity of the sauce and give it a nice, rich, creaminess at the same time!
